Clues is about a young woman, Emily, a shy, clumsy and naive woman, who manages to become the assistant of a well known but despicable police inspector, Mr Hawkins, in London, 1898. One day, as she accompanies him on duty, she discovers clues that might point towards the death of her mother, who was a leader of an important London gang, 20 years earlier. The story is a kind of mix between the Sherlock Holmes novels and My fair lady (for the character development, the general feeling and the humour). It is not a dark story like "from hell" for instance, but it's a lot based on the ambiguous relationship between Emily and Hawkins, who are two complete opposite characters, and therefore, contains a few humourous bits. That's about it!
