Fanart -Wuthering Heights- by kyla79 Fanart -Wuthering Heights- by kyla79
I adore "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë, it's one of my favourite books in the world. Go read it now, if you like tormented, violent and passionate tragic love stories from the 19th century.

Heathcliff and Catherine as children and adults.

Done with pencil, colored in photoshop CS3 with a wacom intuos 3 tablet.

I love Heathcliff. This MUST be what he looks like.

I like the fierce looks, it's so like them! I saw young Catherine with more feminine face features, although the wild look fits her perfectly. Heathcliff is perfect!

Amazinh work! I´m reading Wuthering Heights right now and your character´s design passes all the features from these two!

Catherine et sa sauvagerie est très reconnaissable. Ils sont tout à fait comme il faut : bruts et indomptables.

just read it for english, an incredibly dynamic cast - love the expressions especially :)

Nice work, I love the way you've not made Cathy too pretty and girly as many are tempted to!
Lemanci Featured By Owner May 14, 2011
i love the bronte works too. if you read the storys from every sister, you have to think they were pretty tormented :/
you have to watch the bbc versions of these books, especially wuthering heights with tom hardy.....believe doesnt go more tormented then that! :)

thank you for your works!

I love this. I really enjoy that you didn't play down the fact that both of the characters were downright unpleasant.

just finished reading it...i felt so bad for Hareton all the way to the end....i used to feel that way about Catherine and Heathcliff and Linton and Cathy until they became jerks!...but Cathy redeemed herself i suppose....

Do you think Cathy is evil? I've read a few reviews of the book and they say she's evil. Personally I never saw her as evil or selfish I think it's Heathcliff who is the destructive one.
rockyownsmyheart Featured By Owner Jul 28, 2009
aw, let her into your window heathcliff.

Oh gosh, you like that book? XD I'm having such a hard time understading it. But, whatI understand of the plot if pretty good. I'm beginning to like it a little more.

very nice drawing. I like how cathy looks.
0palesque Featured By Owner Feb 18, 2009
OH my god... EXACTLY how they should be represented; a desperate, destructive, hate/love couple. Lovely work.
kittyvash Featured By Owner Dec 15, 2008
I loooove that book, as well. I like the older Catherine you drew. I guess I pictured Heathcliff as more Indian-like, but I like it nonetheless! It'd be neat to see what your daughter Catherine looked like :) good job!

We recently started reading it in English.

And I ADORE it.

Just like I adore this. Your style makes the characters looks so intense. Which makes perfect sense because they're all absolutely psycho in the novel...But I love them nonetheless!

You know, I've been meaning to read Wuthering Heights for ages, and you're really making me want to go get a copy.

Even if I haven't read the novel, I still think this is wonderful.

I love it I love it I love it!

I love Cathy's non-pretty face. I never imagined either of them to be attractive and I hate it when people portray them like supermodels. It's one of my favourite books ever.

Well done.

You should read "Jane Eyre" if you haven't already, it's fabulous.

Oh yay! Have you seen the Masterpiece Theatre production of it? It's quite good.
Joojia Featured By Owner Jun 11, 2009  Professional Digital Artist
It's actually a Masterpiece - Tom Hardy is amazing there as Heathcliff.

And about your (kyla79) version of Cathy and Heathcliff - BRAVO! Simply beautiful!
Valnatron Featured By Owner Jul 1, 2008
I remember reading the book in highschool and being the only one in the class NOT to feel sorry for the people Heathcliff ****ed with, and truly only having sympathy for him. I was not made popular by these notion, but that was never a goal of mine anyway. Beautifully sad story, though the ending kinda nagged me.

amazing, just amazing. I finished the book about a month ago after seeing the movie from the forties and fell in love. You just captured everything and it rocks XD

Great book! Everyone always says they hate Catherine and Heathcliff but...I actually like them. I love flawed, messed up characters, and at least they are both passionate!

Great drawing, I think you captured them really well

Wuthering Heights fanart! How fun!! A rare treat, I think. I wasn't a huge fan of the book when I first picked it up a few years back, but I had a great time doing a monologue of Cathy's recently, and am thinking I may have to give it another try.
theladyingreen Featured By Owner Apr 25, 2008
Aaah, Wuthering Heights!
Heathcliff with his violence and selfish, selfish Cathy... but that does not stops it all from being amazing.

I really like how you drew these two. Great job! Brontë worthy. ;-D

I love Wuthering Heights. 2 people that love each other and give each other nothing but misery ;)

I like the b/w Heathcliffe & Cathy.

That's really fab! Where do you get your costume ideas from? I'm kinda working from a mixture of paintings and common sense about the adaptations to live on the Moors at the moment...
kyla79 Featured By Owner Feb 6, 2008
for the costume ideas, I get them from art books and movies most of the time. I really recommend watching Victorian and Pre-victorian movies for their costumes!

Okay, so I the other day I decided to read this book on a whim. I just finished it, and good gracious - what a miserable wallow in an epically painful saga of pernicious, vengeful, destructive, spiteful, and incomprehensibly foolish behavior! It was great! I thought it would resemble Jane Austen's stuff, but was delightfully surprised - turns out it's all about people who hate each other being appallingly cruel to one another, and people who love each other being appallingly cruel to one another. I was thoroughly engrossed.

:music: Heathcliff its my your cathy I come home. I am so cold, let me in at your window!
Oh let me have it let me grab your soul away.
Oh let me have it let me grab your soul away, noo
It's me ... Cathy. :music:

such a beautifull novel.
Indeed, I dunno how couples as Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet or Romeo and Juliet are comparing with Cathy and Heathcliff...

I´ve Never met anyone that knew about the Bronte sisters.Well, then again, I live in Mexico where that is not common lore.

Wonderful rendition.

I kind of love this A LOT. Your style is superb, and, as I loved your other Heathcliff drawing, this totally made my night! Their expressions are priceless - I've loved WH for a few years now, and I'm very amused with how you captured them! I was reading of your dislike for Catherine, but I feel sorry for her because the deep-down, root reason why she married Edgar was to use his money to help Heathcliff, without realizing how much it would hurt poor Heath and shame him in the end. (Oh goodness, that poor man!) Anyway, I love them both to bits (Heath being my utmost favorite, though), and I think your work is awesome. Bravo!
jarod1872 Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2008
You know, I hate to admit it, but I could never make it through Wuthering Heights. Not my thing I guess. Although I can definately say your drawings do the books more justice in my eyes. Although it's hard to imagine a subject that your drawings would not do justice.

OMG! That's so cute! Although I pictures Healthcliff a little more gruff XD Oddly enough Healthcliff was my favorite character.

Wuthering Heights is my favorite book! Thank gooey gum drops for the art! 'Tis beau-ti-ful!

Unfortunately, my Literature teacher decided to skip it due to lack of time, but I read it anyway. I am grateful beynd words that I did. It is the most passionate, yet terrifying (not frightening, just general mood) book I have ever read. Anyone else who reads this comment...READ WUTHERING HEIGHTS! I COMMAND YOU! (However, I also recomend Jane Eyre, Frankenstein, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall).

I love your drawing! Do you plan to do more WH art?
Now I have to go read it again...
kyla79 Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2008
In fact, I have a lot of WH pics, but I don't post them because they are really messy. I draw me some WH quite regurlarly, so don't worry, more should pop up soon enough!
jinglesnow Featured By Owner Jan 15, 2008   Writer
Ah, that's good!

You're other art is beautiful, by the way. I drew a scene from WH in pencil, but I keep procrastinating on putting it up.

And here's a random question: How exactly do you feel about Heathcliff? Many people dislike him, others only like him because he's fun to despise, and some just adore him for his total devotion to Catherine. Which one are you? I find Heathcliff an interesting character and I felt sorry for him, but I will admit that I began to think of him more as a villian nearer the end of the book.
