Just to say that I am back from the mountains, but will be going on wednesday to the biggest european comic book festival. and stay until friday evening. I will not be presenting my book there, but I will not be there as a tourist either! I'm so happy to get to go there, and maybe meet some of my favourite artists!
If anyone of you is going, I will be with my publishers, Akileos. So if you see their exhibition stand, and a red-haired girl, that might be me!
lol, there's loads of stuff! Pumpkin seeds, sesame and amaranth have much more iron than lentils. interesting about liver is that pork's liver has about two times as much iron as beef liver. Meat in general is a good thing. There are supplements containing iron, too.
Tee and coffee among other things inhibit the resorption of iron, whereas acid - such as Vitamin C - promotes it.
Unfortunately, less than 25% of the iron in the food really get absorbed. So if it's a serious deficiency you'd have to eat loads of iron, chew nails for breakfast
I don't know how serious you condition is and I'm definitely not a doctor. If your iron deficiency was discovered through clinical diagnostic methods you surely have been told what to do about it. Otherwise - if it's really bothering you and you've got the feeling that something's seriously wrong - I strongly suggest that you go and see a medic.
thanks a lot for your long and interesting answer!
In fact, I saw a doctor maybe two years ago and he said I had to watch out just a little. But in general, I sleep a little more than I used to, and I loose a little too much hair in my opinion. A friend of mine, who has diagnosed iron deficiency, told me he had the same symptoms. And now I try to watch out even if I drink a lot of coffee and tea!
And basically it's always a good thing to watch out for what you eat and drink
But I wouldn't rely on a diagnose that was made 2 years ago. Iron status changes over time and unless you have some chronic enzyme malfunction or stuff like that it's definitely different today from what it was 2 years ago. also, there are many different ways to test the iron status: long term parameters, short term supply tests, functional tests... Uh... you're a girl. Which means additional blood loss compared to men, if you get me. Testing for the wrong parameter at the wrong time gives wrong results
Anyway, I don't think you've got a vital iron deficiency, not from what you say the symptoms are. Need for sleep CAN BE a symptom for anaemia. That is true. But are you experiencing it combined with mucosa tissue mutations, headaches or dizziness? Are you unusually pale? Do you fall ill often, get tired easily? No? Well, than it's still possible that your iron status is a bit low but nothing to worry about. Even if you DO experience some of those symptoms, it's nothing to be freaked out about. They are all early symptoms. You may want to think about your blood status being checked just to be sure.
About the hair loss: Believe me or not, I had that, too: 2 years ago. It started when I first attended university. Had it for over half a year! I was despairing. I had my blood checked for hormones, vitamin and mineral deficiency, I saw a dermatologist, tried out different shampoos. Nobody could help me. In the end I settled for self treatment with an all-round vitamin-and-mineral-supplement to be able to at least cross out lack of micro nutriments as a cause. And it stopped. Something was missing. I still don't know what it was but I'm fine now. Of course I'm not taking supplements all year round. just from time to time. And by experimenting with myself I found out something else: APPLES. "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" is not just an empty proverb. Apples stopped my hair loss pretty efficiently, too. One a day. You might want to try it. And there's no iron in apples so it can't have been that.
OH Kyla how lucky! I hope you had a nice time in the mountains and all goes well with the excibit. Hope you meet lots of artists!!! Where is the festival held at? Not that I`m going, but just wondering! A big big to you!
