Hey, got my stuff ripped for the first time here on deviantart! Ok, this had to happen. Anyway, I just will start watermarking my stuff, and that should pretty much solve it. Feels kinda weird, but I'm not angry... But people can be really stupid thinking they can post stff without anyone noticing!
Edit: it seems deviantart has taken down the drawing. Thank you! It really was not serious. I think this person just thought deviantart was the appropriate place to post other people's drawings, just ot share them to other (this person never said that he had done the drawing, he just said he liked the character in the pic...)
Kyla, you're a girl after my own heart. Seriously, it's refreshing to read about how you've chosen to be civil with this girl. Don't let her get away with it though. Reporting someone doesn't automatically give them a bad record, it just gives us the chance to explain to them the rules around here. It's only when they've crossed a certain line or repeated the thefts (or other offenses) over and over again it becomes a problem.
I'm glad you found this out before it got too out of hand.
I totally agree with you. For what I saw, everything makes me think that she has probably confused deviantart with other blog sites, where it's ok to post stuff that isn't your own, if you see what I mean (like posting a fanart drawing of a character you like etc, just for the pleasure of sharing a nice rendition of that character). I noted her, and am waiting for an answer. But frankly, it's not worth getting angry for. I was more surprised than anything else, really! It's not either like someone was taking my drawings, printing them on t-shirts, and sold on ebay!
Dang, that stinks. Eh... I've had it happen to my friends before, though. There was this whole big issue and I ended up getting temporarilly-banned twice for telling the theif that they stole a pic. Oo; And someone else got permanently-banned. And then the dA admins ended up defending the theif, which I thought was really weird.
Oh well. At least you're handling the situation maturely. XD
Oh, and how do you watermark a pic? I'm paranoid about my pics being stolen and such...
I think, for the watermark, you just simply put a symbol or something that is totally your own, and stick it over your drawing. Or for traditional artists, just sign in the drawing directly, not on the white of the paper, where it can easily be erased with the appropriate computer programm...
I didn't want to say her name, because she probably confused DA with any other blog, where you can show drawings you didn't do to share with other people. I told her it would be stupid to get banned if that were the case, so I didn't report her. And I don't want people to go and insult her, and as a result, make her miserable but she eventually will be banned, and other people with her (I have witnessed many times people getting banned whislt their art was stolen. It happened to samantharobinson not that long ago...)
And I suppose that makes sense. I looked at the pic you showed on another reply, and yeah, it didn't really look like she was trying to steal the pic or anything, I guess. Though the theif I was referring to actually took one of my friends pics and traced it, and entered it into a contest. >>;
